An inaugural all day workshop will take place in January 2007 in London. This workshop is titled 'Perspectives On Financialization' and we will ask a series of leading academic researchers working in the area to develop their concept of financialization in dialogue with a discussant. The aim is to explore competing and complementary definitions and understandings of financialization, as well as to discuss future research.
The organisers estimate a charge of £80 per attendee for this event is necessary to recover the costs of room hire, lunch and an evening meal. Those attending are expected to find and pay for their own accommodation and travel. We will seek, but do not yet have, sponsorship to cover the travel and accommodation expenses of those who make presentations or act as discussants. Numbers will be limited to a maximum of 50 by the venue and by our desire to create a workshop environment, and acceptance will be according to a first to reply rule after we have sent booking forms to all who register an interest in the IWGF.
On Thursday and Friday
May 11th and 12th 2006 there is also a separate two day workshop on "New
Actors in a Financialised Economy" which will cover the activities of
hedge funds, private equity, consultants, and others including financial services
conglomerates; this workshop will include presentations by practitioners as
well as academics, Formally, this workshop is being organised as part of the
EU Framework 6 ESEMK project which includes a work package on financialization.
Thanks to EU financial support, no charge will be made for this event which
will in principle be open to all though again numbers will be limited by venue.
However non-ESEMK attendees will be expected to fund and organise their own
travel costs and accommodation.
